What will you do at PSS?
As a Global Cost Expert Plastics, you play a key role in ensuring optimal cost levels, manufacturability, and competitiveness of plastic components across our global product portfolio. You combine strong technical expertise with sharp analytical insight, translating product design and manufacturing details into clear, actionable cost models.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop accurate cost calculations and deliver timely estimates for RFQs and Business Cases.
- Act as the link between Engineering and Purchasing to secure an optimal cost/design balance.
- Identify key cost drivers by analyzing designs, specifications, and manufacturing processes.
- Build, maintain, and improve cost models and decision‑support tools for engineering.
- Collaborate with Commodity Managers to track long‑term cost trends and guide strategy.
- Advise on design‑to‑cost, design‑for‑manufacturing, and component standardization.
- Define molding parameters (cycle time, tonnage, scrap rates, changeovers, etc.).
- Recommend suitable molding technologies (injection molding, blow molding, …).

As a Global Cost Expert Plastics, you bring a unique blend of technical expertise, analytical capability, and proactive thinking. You understand how design, materials, tooling, and processing interact — and you use this knowledge to steer the organization toward smarter, more cost-effective solutions.
- Strong technical and analytical skills in plastics, molding technologies, tooling, materials, and manufacturing.
- Around two years of plastics experience (materials, tooling, or production) with the ability to convert complex designs and processes into clear cost drivers and solid cost models.
- Excellent Excel capabilities (macros, pivot tables, advanced data handling) for building and managing cost tools.
- A collaborative mindset with confident communication, enabling effective global teamwork across Engineering, Purchasing, Commodity Management, and suppliers.
- Independent and structured working style suited for a matrix environment and multi‑project management.
- Proactive, improvement‑driven attitude focused on optimizing cost, design, and standardization.
- Assertiveness to challenge stakeholders when needed to ensure the best cost and design outcomes.
